Central Institute of Medicinal and Aromatic Plants - CIMAP Hyderabad was started functioning from 7th July 1982 as Demonstration Farm with the main objective of showcasing CIMAP’s green technologies for Deccan Plateau region. Thirty acres of land in the village Boduppal near Uppal in the outskirts of Hyderabad was selected to demonstrate the profitability of cultivation of MAPs under resource constraint conditions of semiarid tropics.

Mint varieties released and agro-packages developed and popularized by CIMAP have made India the global leader in mints and related industrial products. CIMAP has released several varieties of the MAPs, their complete agro-technology and post harvest packages which have revolutionized MAPs cultivation and business scenario of the country.
