DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore was established by The GRD Trust in the academic year 2005-2006, in tune with the vision of Prof. G.R.Damodaran, whose cherished dream was to start a college of Education . Over a period of four years, totally dedicated to the cause of education DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore has made unparalleled contribution to the society by churning out a new category of teachers who could imbibe a good value system in the future generation while grooming them to meet the challenges posed by the era of evolving technological excellence. Dr. G.R.Damodaran College of Education was launched by the Trust.
DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore is functioning in its new campus at Muthugoundan Pudur (on the road connecting NH47 and Sulur) from the Academic year 2006-’07. The campus stretches over 5 acres of land in a serene and semi-rural location and has well designed buildings with spacious classrooms, library, laboratories, conference and seminar halls and sufficient space for other activities like physical education, recreation, meetings and other practical activities. DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore buses are operated from Gandhipuram and Sulur and hostel facility has also been created for the benefit of students coming from the other parts of the state.
The mission of the DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore is to our ardent mission is to groom educators, equipped with up to date scientific knowledge and skills related to education, who will be creative, motivated, self-confident, self reliant and adept at modifying teaching strategies in tune with the changing scenario, without compromising on quality.
DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore shall strive to infuse in our student-teachers a humanitarian approach in their sincere efforts to mold and guide young minds and pave the way for the evolution of a new order in the realm of education. We aspire with fervent commitment to impart the principles of Man-making Education and instill the values in the student teachers, which will promote exemplary endeavor. DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore has full-fledged, state of the art laboratories for Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Computer Science and Psychology. Apart from these, a Language Laboratory has also been commissioned to enable all the student teachers to learn the different aspects of English Language Teaching. Computer training is imparted on all the students so as to enable them to use the latest technology in classroom teaching, which enhances their professionalism. The Education Technology Lab has all the latest equipments required for effective classroom teaching.
The DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore students acquire proficiency in the use of various Audio-visual Educational Equipments like the Epidiascope, Overhead Projector, Slide Projector, LCD Presentation etc. Exhaustive training is given to the students in the preparation of various Teaching Aids like, film strips, slides and OHP transparencies. Rigorous training is imparted in the preparation of Power Point Presentations and other LCD presentation. Apart from this they are also given adequate exposure in the preparation and presentation of Computer Assisted Instructional Materials (CAI) and Programmed Learning Materials (PLM).
The DR GR Damodaran College of Education – Coimbatore Library has more than 3700 volumes covering all the relevant areas of Education and 20 journals. Our student-teachers are trained in referencing, self-study and creative work through the various assignments given to them. The library also has a collection of e-books. College offers Bachelor of Education course.
