Government Engineering college - GEC Jagdalpur is started on 1984 with 20 seats of Civil engineering branch. Jagdalpur knows as city of squares, is situated in the far most of Chattisgarh and is connected to capital of state Raipur by National Highway No 43. It also connected by road to Visakhapatman, Hyderabad, Koraput and other major towns of neighboring state of Andhra Pradesh, Orissa. The distance from Raipur to Jagdalpur is about 300 KM. regular bus services with luxury coaches are available between Raipur to Jagdalpur.

In year 1986 Mechanical Engineering branch is introduced in this Government Engineering college - GEC Jagdalpur with admission in 30 seats. Then in year 2000 Electronics & Telecommunication engineering and Information Technology engineering branches introduced with the intake of 30 seats in each branch. In year 1992 admission to Civil Engineering branch was stopped by state government. From Session 2005-06 introduction of Electrical Engineering branch with 30 seats and admission in Civil Engineering branch with 20 seats has been started.
