PSG College of Technology was established in the year 1951 and the founders wisely decided to locate it in the same campus as the PSG Industrial Institute. Thus, today PSG College of Technology and PSG Industrial Institute are the best examples of effective industry institution interaction and PSG College of Technology can be considered to be one of the few "TEACHING COMPANIES" in the world. They take all efforts to impart technology diffusion and faculty development programs. PSG College of Technology has been fortunate to have the guidance of illustrious Managing Trustees and Principals with foresight and far reaching vision. The PSG College of Technology has been in the forefront of innovations in technical education not only in Tamil Nadu but also in India. The first principal of PSG College of Technology, Dr. G.R. Damodaran was instrumental in the planned growth of the institution, from the humble beginnings in 1951 to the present status of a world renowned technological institution that PSG College of Technology is today.

PSG College of Technology, during its 55 years of existence, has made deep forays into the advancing world. It has helped to successfully shape the minds of our future people with elan. Similarly, it is noteworthy that every institution sheltered under the PSG & Sons' Charities umbrella has become one with the world community for the human values it inculcates in its people.

PSG College of Technology is situated at about 8 km from Coimbatore Railway Station and 5 km from Airport. The campus is spread over 45 acres of land, economically utilized for the College, Hostels, Staff Quarters, Play Fields and Gardens.

PSG College of Technology, under the guidance of illustrious Managing Trustees Sri G R Govindarajulu, Dr G R Damodaran, Sri G Varadaraj, Sri G R Karthikeyan, Sri V. Rajan and presently under Sri G Rangaswamy, all with foresight and far reaching vision, has been in the forefront of innovation in technical education. The founder Principal Dr G R Damodaran was instrumental in the planned growth of the institution from the humble beginnings in 1951 to the present status of a world-renowned technological institution. Dr G R Damodaran was succeeded by Dr R Subbayyan, Dr K Venkataraman, Dr A Shanmugasundaram, Dr S Subramanyan, Dr P Radhakrishnan and Dr S Vijayarangan as Principal's. Presently Dr R Rudramoorthy is Principal.

PSG College of Technology today has a student strength of about 5200 with 11 engineering and technology departments besides the computer applications, management sciences, basic sciences and humanities departments. Among the various Under-Graduate and Post-Graduate programmes offered by the college, as many as 18 programmes were accredited in the year 1997 itself by the National Board of Accreditation of AICTE. The departments are greatly benefited by the expertise of more than 15 visiting faculty from renowned institutions and industries. Each department conducts annually at least one National / International Conference / Seminar / Workshop for effective dissemination of state-of-art technologies and research findings for the benefit of teaching faculty and industries. On an average every year, five short term programmes on current topics of interest are conducted for the teaching faculty from other colleges with funding from AICTE / ISTE and other agencies.

The Central Library of PSG College of Technology is named after Dr. G.R. Damodaran, The Founder Principal, Director, Dean of PG Studies and the then Vice-Chancellor of Madras University. The Library came into being with the establishment of PSG Polytechnic in the year 1926 and further expanded with the genesis of the PSG College of Technology in the year 1956. With the recurring grants from the Government, Generous Management contribution and by the special interest taken by Dr. G.R. Damodaran, the Library is built up and is being equipped steadily and systematically.

PSG College of Technology offers both undergraduate and postgraduate engineering and science courses. The college offers a total of 48 full time and part time programs in Science, Engineering and Management at UG & PG levels. The institution has a strong alumni base, most of them occupying coveted positions in many educational, industrial and research organizations all over the world.

PSG College of Technology has an independent placement office catering to the needs of organizations in conducting campus interviews. It is headed by a professor designated as Dean, Placement & Training and he is supported by placement officer and a full time permanent coordinator. The office is also assisted by student coordinators who lead a team of placement representatives from various courses of studies. The placement office ensures and takes care to provide the best arrangements and hospitality for the visiting companies' officials. The Placements of PSG College of Technology was world class in 2008 with various leading companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Tech. Mahindra etc. recruited students from its campus and 90% of its students got placed.

The placement office, functions in a separate air conditioned block with all audio visual facilities for PPT, written test, group discussion and interviews and has rapidly progressed over the years in enhancing the placement potential effectively. It plays a very important and key role in counseling and guiding the students of the college for their successful career placement.

PSG College of Technology is ranked one among the top fifteen National level technical Institutes, in terms of number of students receiving placement offers from reputed organizations from all over the country.
