St Judes College – Kanyakumari owes its existence to the indefatigable and daring efforts of the Rev. Fathers who formed a society named “The Latin Catholic Fishermen’s Educational Society (Reg.No.13/78) The general body consists of Ex officio members of all the coastal parishes of both Thoothoor Vicariate and Colachel Vicariate. The college was started with the permission the Tamilnadu Government in the academic year 1980-81.

St Judes College – Kanyakumari was affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University in the year 1980-81. With the establishment of Manonmaniam Sundaranar University at Tirunelveli in 1990, the College is now affiliated to it, with six major subjects in Science and three major subjects in Arts & Commerce in undergraduate courses and P.G. in M.Sc., (IT) both for men and women. The college is also recognised by UGC for grants.

St Judes College – Kanyakumari is situated in a vast area of 43 acres of land at Thoothoor, a coastal village, 10 km South of Kaliakkavila in Vilavancode Taluk, Kanyakumari District. The college is 43 km away from Nagercoil, the head quarter of Kanyakumari District and 40 km away from Trivandrum, the Capital city of Kerala. St Judes College – Kanyakumari aims at providing integrated and personalised higher education to the marginalised, particularly the Latin Catholic fishermen community in accordance with the rights of the minority community guaranteed in the constitution of the country.

St Judes College – Kanyakumari provides students with a whole range of co-curricular and extra-curricular activities to make their campus life rich and meaningful and to develop them into fuller and more mature persons. It is expected that every student involves himself/herself it at least one of these activities to develop his/her personality.

St Judes College – Kanyakumari has always given much importance to sports and games. Students continue to excel in games, especially in football, cricket and in athletics and they have been chosen for various jobs. Sufficient number of playgrounds are there. Students participate in the inter-collegiate tournaments in the state, University and in the district.

There are four units of NSS in St Judes College – Kanyakumari with 100 student volunteers in each unit. This scheme is provided so that students learn to be men for others through service to the people around them. They have annual camps in villages in the district to learn to live with the people, understand their difficulties and help them find solutions to their problems.

St Judes College – Kanyakumari offers NCC (Army) and NCC (Navy) to the male students. NCC instills in young minds discipline, regularity, punctuality and a sense of honour and pride of belonging to our country. It gives a chance for the students to take up “B” and “C” certificate exams at the end of the second and third year training respectively. Cadets can enjoy the experience of participating in various camps. In a training year 40 parades are conducted each comprising two hours. “C” certificate holders can obtain a commission in the Indian Defence Services in their reserved quota Weightage of marks is given to NCC certificate holders in various interviews of the state and central government jobs.

There is a guidance and counseling cell in St Judes College – Kanyakumari with two trained counselors. Students are invited to discuss their problems related to their study, personal needs, etc. The Career guidance cell creates awareness among the students of UG and PG courses about the avenues open to them to get employment. It also provides available information about the job opportunities, entrepreneurship and conduct seminars and workshop on current job market and mobilize resources for the needy student to apply for jobs and start enterprises etc.
