The Whitby Gazette is an English provincial newspaper founded by Ralph Horne on 6th of July 1854. Ralph Horne was a bookseller who was also a member of the Whitby Literary and Philosophical Society. On 2nd of January 1858, it became a proper twice-weekly newspaper. Presently, newspaper is published in Whitby, Yorkshire.

Until, 2nd of January 2012, the newspaper was published as twice weekly newspaper on Tuesday and Friday each week, but in January 2012, it was re-launched as weekly edition newspaper. The
Whitby Gazette newspaper is published on Friday. The newspaper briefly experimented with a paywall, but the number of subscribers remains low. Due to that after sometime Gazette abandoned paywall. The Gazette was nominated for the Media’s Weekly Newspaper of the Year award in 2013. The
Whitby Gazette is the only newspaper in the world to have been read on the highest mountain on each of the seven continents.
