Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology – HIET Chennai was established in Chennai in 1966 in response to the need for non-formal technical education. Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology is run by the Hindustan Engineering Training centre (HETC) Educational society and registered as a Technical Education Society under the Societies Act, XXI Of 1860. Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology – HIET Chennai is approved by the Director General of Civil Aviation, Government of India, for conducting Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Course and by All India Counsel for Technical Education and the Government of Tamil Nadu for conducting Diploma courses in Automobile, Computer and Mechanical Engineering courses.
Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology – HIET Chennai is situated at P.B.No. 1306, #40, GST Road, St. Thomas Mount, Chennai. College has trained engineers and technicians in many disciplines of Engineering. It is well equipped with workshops and laboratories. Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology – HIET Chennai is widely recognized in the Asian and African continents as a premier technical institution. Various Governments including the Government of Kenya, Tanzania, Zimbabwe and the Commonwealth Secretariat and several aviation organizations have sponsored students to undergo courses at HIET. College has trained over 36,000 engineers and technicians. Over 3,000 of them are in aviation, now working with various airlines and aviation industries in India and abroad.
Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology – HIET Chennai libraries are well equipped and updated with the latest books. We have more than 6000 books reserved especially for our polytechnic students. Books include topics for Mechanical Engineers, Automobile engineers, aeronautical and A.M.E. Students can use this facility any time of the day. After the commencement of the classes students have to apply for Library cards to access these books. Hostel accommodation is available for boys. There are also hostels and lodging facilities available outside campus. Admission to these hostels and other lodging enquiries will be discussed at the time of admissions. Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology – HIET Chennai has a canteen on campus that caters to the needs of the staff and students during the college hours.
There are five labs inside Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology – HIET Chennai campus. Chemistry, Physics, English laboratories are available for all the branches in the first year. Other labs include Strength of Materials lab and Fluid Mechanics lab. Separate facilities are available for different branches. Aircraft Maintainence and Aeronautical Engineering student will have Aircraft Electricity Labs, Engines Lab (Jet, Piston, I.C), Instruments lab including various testing equipment for calibration of various aircraft instruments, Dead Weight testers, Aircraft Instrument panels, Vacuum chambers, ATC-810 Flight simulator.
Hindustan Institute of Engineering Technology – HIET Chennai Aircraft Engines lab include a wide variety of Jet engines such as Rolls Royce Avon Mark 100 Turbo jet, De Haviland Goblin Mark 3 Turbo jet engine, Pratt & Whitney JT 3D Turbo Fan engine. Automobile, Mechanical students will get Basic workshop lab, Foundry, Welding, Smithy, Fitting shop, Carpentry, sheet metal lab, Machine shop, Engines lab, Heat power and transmission lab and Auto Electrical labs. Diesel lab contains Diesel Fuel Injection Pump Servicing. Various engine models include cut-views and working models of different engines.
