Indian Institute of Technology Mandi – IIT Mandi nestled in the Sivalik Range of the Himalayas, away from the bustle of the metropolis; a new abode of learning has germinated. A few hours before the Himalayan resort Kullu in Himachal Pradesh, once considered "the end of the habitable world", the youngest IIT is coming up. Indian Institute of Technology Mandi – IIT Mandi is located in PWD Rest House, Near Bus Stand, Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. IIT Mandi is privileged to be the first IIT in the Himalayas. The main campus of IIT Mandi is located at Kamand which is about 12 kms from Mandi City. It lies along the river Uhl which is a tributary of the river Beas. The total area is 538 acres of which about 200 acres is flat land while the rest is mountainous. The campus also has a "Nala" going through it. There are plans to make a 2 MW SHP station to utilize the water resource of the nala. Processes for selection of architects and construction agencies, obtaining necessary permissions are undergoing currently and permanent concrete/steel buildings are expected to be ready by early 2013.

Library facility of Indian Institute of Technology Mandi – IIT Mandi books are available to all the students till 9 pm and the timings are flexible during Quizzes or End semester examinations. New books are added every month. Quantity of books is increased whenever possible. There is a reading room provided to the students where all the reference books are kept. Students can choose from a large pool of reference books. Study room is equipped with PCs for further reference from Internet.

Hostel facility at Indian Institute of Technology Mandi – IIT Mandi renuka hall for the girls, where 19 students are accommodated, is adjacent to the Administration Block, just above the Mandi Bus stand. Facilities:- Attached mess providing homely food, including South Indian items, Wi-Fi connection in the rooms, Visitors room, LCD TV, Washing Machine with helper to wash clothes, Badminton court etc. A care taker to look after the daily routine matters along with a warden, assistant warden and a resident warden to address the problems of the students on a day to day basis. Bias Khund Hall for MS/PHD students, where 10 male students are accommodated, is adjacent to the Administration Block, just above the Mandi Bus stand. Student volunteers take care of the Computer Center after the Faculty In charge leaves. Computer Center is also equipped with Wi-Fi. Students have access to both LAN as well as Wi-Fi. Students can use PCs anytime they like, provided it is under the timeline of the Computer Center. Students can download any useful content in the lab and get to learn a great deal of new stuff while in lab, as In-charge and his coordinates are always ready to tell new things to learn.

Sports facility at Indian Institute of Technology Mandi – IIT Mandi has been almost one year since IIT Mandi shifted from IIT Roorkee campus to its own transit campus. In this period of time, IIT Mandi has established a sports council to coordinate all sports activities. In spite of being a new IIT, the institute has been successful in developing a firm foundation in the field of sports.
