Manipal Institute of Technology-MIT is commonly known as MIT. Manipal and Manipaltech is a constituent institution of the Manipal University that concentrates in the fields of engineering and technology. MIT, Manipal was established in 1957 as Manipal Engineering College-MEC by Dr. Tonse Madhav Ananth Pai.
Manipal Institute of Technology campus is situated 65 kilometers 37 miles north of Mangalore. The campus is located five kilometers away from Udupi's railway station and is spread across 188 acres of land. The catering of the college is handled by the
Manipal Institute of Technology-MIT Food Court, Institute Cafeteria, and other messes on campus. Shuttle service between the residential blocks to the academic blocks at specific intervals provides in-campus transportation to the students and other people. The College has the facility to house almost all its students on campus in its fifteen different hostel dorm buildings, and can be taken as a fully residential campus.
Manipal Institute of Technology-MIT, Manipal has a fully fledged Gymnasium, an Olympic size Swimming Pool, indoor Badminton courts, flood lit Tennis and Basketball courts, a fully fledged Football ground and facilities for Volleyball and Hockey. Institute contains a total of 16 academic departments that awards undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degrees in different fields of study. The institute offers Ph.D. programs on a full-time or part-time basis for duly qualified candidates. Information Technology is the sector that absorbs maximum students.
Manipal Institute of Technology-MIT saw 95% placement in 2008, which has grown steadily since 2005. Even in the recession that hit 2008-09, 56 companies turned up for the college placements offering jobs to 948 students, with the best remuneration reaching peak of 10.75 lakhs per annum. Leadership at Institute has made all unique efforts like ‘Practice School’ and hence attracted top-notch companies of the industry including Microsoft, Yahoo, IBM, Cisco, Honda Motors, GE, etc.
A blend of core engineering, R & D, Consultancy and Software companies also provides several options to pursuers. College students also choose to enroll in the undergraduate Twinning Program where the first two years of their coursework is undertaken at International Centre for Applied Sciences ICAS, Manipal and the remaining is completed at a college or university in the United States or Australia or UK. The final undergraduate degree will be awarded by the foreign university. The partners universities include in US include Illinois Institute of Technology and Milwaukee School of Engineering.
