The region’s most prestigious Awards for quality, the 7th North-West Qualtech Awards, were presented during a day-long Convention here today.Over 200 delegates from more than 60 companies participated in this annual quality convention at PTUs Gian Jyoti School of TQM and Entrepreneurship - PTU GJIMT Mohali. From amongst the manufacturing category Philips Electronics India Ltd., Mohali won the Vardhman Quality Navigator Award for large business segment, while Trident Quality Pioneer Award for medium business was bagged by Winsome Textile Industries Ltd., Baddi.Hycron Electronics, Baddi was the winner of Winsome Quality Pathfinder Award in the small business segment. This year, the Educomp Quality Innovator Award for the service sector companies was won by Tata Teleservices Ltd., Mohali.
Addressing a galaxy of corporate leaders and quality professionals, Mr. K C Mehra, Chairman, National Board for Quality Promotion, Quality Council of India (QCI), remarked that “Quality is not expensive, it is priceless”. Commending PTUs Gian Jyoti School of TQM and Entrepreneurship - PTU GJIMT Mohali for spearheading the quality movement in the region, Mr. Mehra announced setting up of Mohali chapter of QCI in the School. Quality, he reiterated, is a must for national well-being and QCI has the agenda to get people in the country appreciate the value of quality, which will be met through the QCI’s chapter.
Mr. Ramesh Suri, Chairman, Subros Limited, Gurgaon, in his keynote address, said that quality is the only differentiator in the highly competitive world that can assure success of any organization. However, the onus lies on the leader who plays most crucial role in implementing total quality in an organization. Mr. Manish Trehan, CEO of the School informed that a large number of project entries were received from various companies from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, out of which 22 teams were short-listed for the final competition, after a detailed evaluation of their project papers, presented their projects before an eminent jury. He informed that these 22 finalists had been able to achieve extraordinary results through structured quality improvement initiatives and had been able to achieve a total savings of Rs. 27.09 crores, he added.
Chairman of the PTUs Gian Jyoti School of TQM and Entrepreneurship - PTU GJIMT Mohali’s Governing Council, Padmashri Chandra Mohan, expressed happiness at the increasing number of entries from far-away geographies, their variety and depth, and enthusiasm of the participating teams this year, which is a clear reflection of the awakening of this region to quality. Addressing the Convention earlier, Mr. R.P. Sehgal, Director Works, SML Isuzu Limited, said that any company to stay competitive in the globalised world must enforce a culture of quality, which is again an issue of people’s mindset working in an organization who must involve themselves wholeheartedly to make quality into a mass movement.
PTUs Gian Jyoti School of TQM and Entrepreneurship - PTU GJIMT Mohali crossed a major milestone in its journey in January 2010, when students of the 1st Batch of its flagship B.Tech.-Industrial Engineering & Management (Specialisation in TQM), were conferred degrees during the 1st Convocation. It was a very emotional and satisfying moment for all of us. Yet, the only thing constant in today's dynamic environment is “change”. Therefore, the B.Tech programme, after a successful intake of 8 batches, has been totally revamped, and it is being launched in a new Avataar from July 2010 session. Our Alumni Association has come into being and vigorous activities are around the corner.
