Prabhat Kumar College – P K College Medinipur the oldest College of Purba Medinipur district, was founded on 15th July 1926 with bounteous donation from late Biswambhar Dinda. Located in the coastal area of Bengal, the College processes a sprawling campus of 17.43 acres.
Initially Prabhat Kumar College – P K College Medinipur functioned as an Arts College under C.U. with only 39 students. In 1985 it got affiliated to C.U. At present, the College runs 18 full-fledged departments (including Arts, Science and Commerce) with a total enrolment of a whopping 3900 students. In keeping with the escalating roll strength in recent years, Prabhat Kumar College – P K College Medinipur has made provision for conducting classes in two separate shifts, morning shift and day shift. Separate blocks are offered to B.Ed., Computer Science and Netaji Subhas Open University courses (both UG & PG). The Alumni Association, with a dedicated clan of workaholic ex-students, has taken up various laudable projects to add glory of the institution.
PG course in physics has already been started from 2005 under VU. Proposals have been sent to V.U. for the introduction of P.G. Courses in select subjects like English, Bengali, Commerce, Chemistry and B.A/B.Sc. Courses in Nutrition, Physical Education, Music has already been started from 2008. Financial aids are lavished on this 80-years-old institution from all corners (including present and Ex-MPs and MLAs) and even from abroad by some illustrious alumni for infrastructural upgradation and overall progress. Far from the nerve center of V.U., Prabhat Kumar College – P K College Medinipur of West Bengal proposes to serve as the hallowed seat of learning especially for economically disadvantaged students of the coastal region. Prabhat Kumar College – P K College Medinipur has two libraries one for general & B Ed and another for commerce. All 18 (Eighteen) department are fully Computerised. The Cash section of our college is also computerised fully. Broad band Internet facilities is available for 24 hours. Total number of computers in the institute are now 35 (Thirty Five only).
Intra College competitions (both indoor and outdoor) are organised in almost all the spheres of physical activities. Prabhat Kumar College – P K College Medinipur students also participate in Inter-college and Inter district Competitions. Medical camps are organised occasionally to render free medical advice to the students. Seminars are also organised to keep the students aware of different problems of health & hygiene.
Prabhat Kumar College – P K College Medinipur N.S.S programme sponsored by the Union Ministry of Education & Social Welfare/State Govt.The student can participate on social-cultural activities organised by thethree N.S.SUnits of the College as volunteers. There is a well organised Cell to dispose off the Complaints made by the Student, Guardians non teaching Staff & teaching Staff of the College. The Extension activities Committee regularly seminars, camps, awareness programmes etc and ensures the participation of the student in the activities.
