Indian Institute of Forest Management-IIFM Bhopal is situated in the sylvan surroundings of the beautiful city of Bhopal, the Indian Institute of Forest Management (IIFM) is a premier sectoral management institute, making its presence felt nationally as well as internationally in the Development, Environment, Conservation-Livelihood and core Corporate sectors.

Indian Institute of Forest Management-IIFM Bhopal is established in 1982 as an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), Government of India, it was conceptualized in response to the recommendations of the National Agriculture Commission (NAC). The impetus generated by these recommendations culminated in an alliance with the Indian Institute of Manage- ment, Ahmedabad (IIMA) through which the philosophy and raison d'etre of IIFM was evolved. The Swedish Interna- tional Development Agency (SIDA) also contributed financially and technically in establishing the Institute. Indian Institute of Forest Management-IIFM runs a two-year fully residential PGDFM (Post Graduate Diploma in Forestry Management) Programme. The three major specialized modules offered in PGDFM are Conservation and Livelihood, Developmental Management and Envi- ronmental Management. The PGDFM programme offers the option to pursue Dual Specialization

Indian Institute of Forest Management-IIFM Bhopal has been entrusted with three important roles such as a leader in the field of Forestry, Environment and Natural Resource Management Education, be concerned with pushing the frontiers of knowledge for development of the sector, As a prime mover of knowledge in its field, interpret and adjust world's knowledge to the Indian context, experiment and create an indigenous body of knowledge,As an Apex Institute, to provide effectively trained teachers to other educational institutions in the field with which it is concerned.

The Management Development Programme (MDP) was a deliberate decision to begin the academic activities at Indian Institute of Forest Management-IIFM Bhopal. Since its inception, the Institute has been continuously diversifying and offering management development programmes to practicing managers, foresters and policy makers in India and other Asian countries.

Indian Institute of Forest Management-IIFM Bhopal is a registered society under Societies Registration Act at Bhopal. The Hon'ble Minister for Forests and Environment, Government of India is the President of the society. The members of the society consist of State Forest Departments, State Forest Development Corporations, Ministries of Human Resource Development, Finance, Forest and Environment, Rural Development at the centre, and Forest-based Industries. Besides these, Chief Secretary Government of Madhya Pradesh, Director General Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education (ICFRE),Director General Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), Inspector General of Forests are society members. At present the society has 45 members.
