Ravenshaw University-Cuttack was set up in 2006 (elevated from Ravenshaw College). Ravenshaw University-Cuttack is recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) under section 12(b) of the UGC Act. History of this great institution can be easily co-related with the history of modern Orissa.
Ravenshaw University-Cuttack is located at Cuttack in Orissa. Ravenshaw University-Cuttack has evolved out of a heritage educational institution. Ravenshaw University-Cuttack offers a blend of old and new values and skills. It is an elevation of Ravenshaw College, established in 1868, one of the oldest and largest colleges in India which subsequently became an autonomous college with CPE status by University Grants Commission and ‘A’ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council-NAAC.
The campus of Ravenshaw University-Cuttack has impressive structures established over about hundred acres of land on the eastern side of Cuttack. It has acquired more land on the bank of river Mahanadi to build its second campus for the new disciplines of Management and Applied Sciences.
The mission of Ravenshaw University-Cuttack is "To provide value-based quality education to students of all sections of society with a view to promoting exemplary work ethics, professional expertise and leadership in all walks of life to serve their fellowmen with justice, truth and love" with a pledge to redeem the motto of Ravenshaw University-Cuttack "Gyanameba Shakti" which means "Knowledge is Power".
Ravenshaw University-Cuttack provides several hostels at its campus separately for boys and girls. Ravenshaw University-Cuttack canteen provides meals, snacks, tea, coffee, cold drinks at reasonable rates to the students, faculty members and employees of the college. The student information bureau operates in collaboration with the District Employment Office, Cuttack and offers counseling and career guidance to the students.
Other infrastructural facilities include a dispensary, bank, post office, gymnasium and huge parking lots. Ravenshaw University-Cuttack has also made provision for sports facilities that include basketball court, cricket pitch, football ground, hockey, volleyball court and field for athletic events.
Ravenshaw University-Cuttack has an allopathic dispensary on the campus with a Govt. Assistant Surgeon to provide free medical help to all students and employees of Ravenshaw University-Cuttack. The dispensary remains open from 10 AM to 1 PM on all working days. During emergency the doctor is available on call and can be contacted for immediate medical help.
Ravenshaw University-Cuttack canteen provides meals, snacks, tea, coffee, cold drinks at reasonable rates to the students, Faculty members and employees of the college. The canteen remains open from 7.00 A.M.IO 5.00 P.M. on all working days.
The City Branch of the State Bank of India has an Extension Counter inside Ravenshaw University-Cuttack Campus. Transactions are carried out from 11 AM to 2 PM from Monday to Friday and from 10 AM to 12 Noon on Saturday. The Bank remains closed on all Government holidays and Sunday.
Ravenshaw University-Cuttack offers undergraduate, postgraduate as well as research programmes for the students. Courses offered by the University include three year integrated degree course in Arts, Science and Commerce (All Hons). PG courses are offered in a range of traditional subjects like Applied Geography, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, Education, English, Hindi, History, Mathematics, Oriya, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology and Zoology.
Ravenshaw University-Cuttack offers self-financed courses on professional subjects Computer Science, Biotechnology, Journalism & Mass Communication, and Business Administration are also conducted by the university. Admission procedure of Ravenshaw University-Cuttack for new sessions starts in the month of April and May. PG course in Oriya adds local element to the curriculum.
Ravenshaw University-Cuttack has 27 departments of which 20 are post-graduate departments. M.Phil. programme is available in 14 departments and all the departments have provision for Ph.D. & D.Litt. programmes. Presently Ravenshaw University-Cuttack runs 23 Post-Graduate courses with research facilities and 27 Undergraduate honours courses.
