Namrup College – Dibrugarh was established in 1973 to cater to the needs of higher education of the entire industrial township as well the neighboring tea gardens and village. The college endeavors to create congenial educational environment and encourages the students for quality improvement, handwork, social awareness and protection of environment. Namrup, which grew up as an industrial township in the middle of the twentieth century has historical importance too. Namrup College – Dibrugarh offers different kind of undergraduate, postgraduate and certificate courses and also offers distance education.
Namrup College – Dibrugarh is located near the industrial township of Namrup which has four industrial establishments, viz. Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited, Assam Petrochemicals Ltd, Namrup Thermal Power Station and the Jeypore Colliery. This township is surrounded by a large number of tea gardens and villages. The college is situated at a distance of seventy kilometers from Dibrugarh Airport, three kilometers from Namrup Railway Station and two and half kilometers from the public and ASTC Bus Station.
Namrup College – Dibrugarh was started with the faculties of Arts and Science. It was affiliated to Dibrugarh University in September 1979. The Arts stream came under Deficit Grants-in-aid system in 1986; and the science stream came under the same in 1992. After a prolonged struggle, it qualified itself for inclusion under section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956 on 14th Feb, 1997 and section 12(B) of the same Act on 4th April, 2000. The college has evolved to a full fledged institution with facilities for major in almost all the subjects. It has made a mark in its history when it got itself duly assessed and accredited by NAAC in January 2004. Hostel building with convenient facilities have been constructed newly and girl students can avail benefit of the same. Namrup College – Dibrugarh provides general routine check-up of the students and provides free medicines to them as well as the neighboring inhabitants.
In keeping with the guidelines of NAAC, Namrup College – Dibrugarh has constituted an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) with the purpose of adopting Quality as an inherent and intrinsic feature of the institution. This Cell is assisted by seven sub-committees, namely, Curricular, Teaching, Learning and Evaluation, Research, Consultancy and Extension, infrastructure and learning Resources, Student Support and Progression, Organization and Management and Healthy Practice Committees to innovate, introduce and ensure quality in all its vital areas of functioning to assist in the post accreditation activities of the college.
Namrup College – Dibrugarh encourages the students and teachers to participate in various extension activities through its agencies i.e. NSS, Green Life Society, SCDC, departments etc. Special preparation and theory classes are arranged before putting the programmes into practice. All the students / volunteers / teachers who participate in the extension programmes are awarded certificates of excellence.
